Soft Tissue Therapy/Sports & Remedial Massage
“Massage eliminates the waste products of nutrition and the poisons of fatigue” Galen (130-200 AD)
A brief history..
The word ‘massage’ means to press softly and is derived from the Arabic word ‘mass’ or ‘mash’.
An ancient form of treatment known to have been used for over five thousand years. It is instinctive to press or rub an injured part of the body in an attempt to soothe.
How does it work?
Soft Tissue Therapy is a clinical therapy that uses massage techniques to manipulate the body’s soft tissue. This has a benficial effect on the vascular, muscular, nervous, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic systems of the body. It helps to prevent and treat sports and non sports related injuries, relieve muscle tension, swelling and pain. Depending on the massage movements used; massage can either induce relaxation or invigorate the body system.
I am qualified to Level 5 in Clinical Sports and Remedial Massage and trained with the Institute of Sport and remedial Massage (ISRM), based in London. I use a variety of techniques including general massage, frictions, kneading, Muescle Energy Technique (MET), Neuro Muscular Techniques (NMT), Soft Tissue Release (STR), Connective Tissue Release (CTR), Trigger Point Release (TPR) and Positional Release (PR).
Sports and remedial massage is not just for athletes; I treat people from all walks of life who benefit from the release of soft tissue tension.
