Hopi Ear Candles

A brief history..

Ear candles date back to the people of the Siberian prairies, Asia and the native North and South American Indians.  The oldest of the Pueblo people, the Hopis had a high level of medicinal knowledge, which they handed down through generations. 
 

How the candles work

I use Biosun candles, which are based on traditional Hopi candles.  They contain natural ingredients including pure beeswax, honey extract, sage, St John’s Wort, Roman chamomile and pesticide free woven cotton.  These natural ingredients are calming and the essential oils have an anti-inflammatory property.  As the warm vapours of the oils are inhaled they can help reduce the effects of stress by calming the mind and as they enter the bloodstream they will enhance the immune system.

The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. They equalise the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions.  Secretion flow is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits.  Most of these are carried away through the candle “chimney”, although some of them can be found in the condensed candle wax residue after removal from the ear, or could even work their way up to the surface 24-48 hours after.
 

The treatment

A Hopi ear candle treatment is very gentle and extremely relaxing.  It starts with a face massage which is intended to enhance the action of the candles, increase the circulation of blood and lymph, help drain the sinuses and eliminate toxins.  The candle is then gently placed into the auditory canal, where it is lit.  You will experience a pleasant crackling sound as the candle burns and a warm comfortable feeling.  If any ash does fall from the candle, which is rare, it just turns to dust and falls at an angle away from you.  The candle is then removed and the other ear is treated.  Many clients then have to be woken up!
